The Hawk Report - December Issue Now Available

U-Scan — Magellan 8500 Scanner/Scale Switch Tag

This technical bulletin addresses an error in the Fujitsu 8500/U-Scan Service guide.  In a nutshell, setting the RS-232 Interface you must scan the Switch Tag before and after scanning the Interface tag or the interface will not be set successfully.  See the bulletin on the Software Technical Bulletins Page.

New California Law Regarding Alcohol Sales Through Self-Checkout

California Assembly Bill 183 was signed into law in September, and restricts alcoholic beverage sales via self-checkout.  The law goes into effect on January 1, 2012, so see the Update for the details and how how retailers need to respond.

Configuring U-Scan to Exclude Items from Self-Checked Transactions

This technical bulletin provides the method to exclude items from shopper-scanning.  This process will be useful for meeting the restrictions of California AB 183 - see the bulletin on the Software Technical Bulletins Page.

Hard Drive Supply Shortage Easing

The hard drive shortage, caused by the catastrophic flooding in Thailand, seems to be easing.  Today, for the first time, we're seeing some significant cost decreases from the recent highs.  There is still a surcharge in place (check the Lead Times Page) but it's a significantly lower than recent days.

Connected Payments 2.20 with Automated E-Mail Reporting

Fujitsu TeamPoS 3600 Power Supply Returns

Fujitsu investigated an increase in the usage rate of the TeamPoS 3600 power supply.  It was found that 90% of the power supplies being replaced in the field have not actually failed (No Problem Found), but the symptoms could easily be interpreted as a power supply failure.  See the hardware bulletin on the Hardware Technical Bulletins Page.

Acer Mid-Tower Withdrawn

Acer has withdrawn its current mid-tower model and there are no plans to replace it.  The Platforms bulletin (1047-46) has been updated with this information.

PCI New Position on Tokenized Data and Services

PCI announced today that tokenization services may not limit a merchant's PCI scope after all.  This does not affect Connected Payments, which provides a more secure and sophisticated architecture, but your customers may call you to make sure.  So get this from the Updates Page or the Connected Payments All-In-One Page.

New Solidcore (McAfee) Patch

PCI PA-DSS for U-Scan

Fujitsu has released this bulletin discussing PA-DSS for the U-Scan system.  While following PA-DSS design guidelines, U-Scan does not handle card data so it is not considered a "payment application" and will not therefore be listed on the PCI Web Site as a "compliant application."  This is the same position as you have with ScanMaster and ISS45.  This document will wait for you on the PCI Compliance Page even if you don't click to read it now. 

ScanMaster 2.7.2-060 - Now Released

This ScanMaster release adds a LaneHawk enhancement and changes to support the quantity key in certain promotions and better handle Diners Club cards.  See the Release Table and Release Notes.

New U-Scan Products and Options

Some new U-Scan configurations are now available that reduce costs - these "Left/Left" customer stations have now been added to the product line that reduce or eliminate the price differentials between the Right and Left units. IBM SurePOS 300 E4A Corrupted Image

There are recent reports regarding IBM SurePOS 300 units (4810-E4A) having issues after UPOS is installed. The drivers are reported installed but won’t initialize and the cash drawer test fails: the drawer will not work in operation.  While IBM fixes their loading process, here are some work-arounds.  See the Software Technical Bulletins Page.

Connected Payments - New Capabilities in 2.19

Connected Payments 2.19 will be going live next week for all customers (easy, huh?) and introducing new capabilities and enhancements.  There are many new features in the Monitoring system, providing several new types of alerts.  Users can now select a PIN pad and generate it's history in the PIN Pad Tracking application.  Further enhancing security, CP encryption keys are unique to every lane, and users can automatically regenerate these keys at will.  Online WIC EBT (eWIC) has also been enhanced, with automation of the Approved Product List files.  The quickest way to see the new stuff is to scan the Release Notes, available from the Connected Payments All-In-One Page or the WinEPS/Connected Payments Manuals Page.

This hardware bulletin from Fujitsu describes a new HDD security guard option for the TeamPoS 3600 terminal.  The new option restricts HDD

V8 / WinPOS Support Course - April 4-8 in Pittsburgh/Warrendale

This is the main V8 course, from the ground-up.  Remember that Education and Training fees can now be subsidized by Marketing Co-op funds - see the Education Page for the Course Catalog and everything you need.

For this course, the enrollment deadline is Friday March 18 - this is also the date the P.O. has to be in, two weeks before the class starts.  Students should plan to arrive Sunday night - the class will begin 8:30am Eastern time Monday and class will close around noon Friday so students can depart that afternoon Friday.  Make sure you ship your MFS1 and POS hardware to arrive in Warrendale by Friday April 1 (no April foolin'...)

This hardware bulletin from Fujitsu will be especially useful if you ever end up booting a 3600 from a DVD ROM.  If your 3600s do not have DVD ROM drives, it won't be very useful at all, but nonetheless it's available on the Hardware Bulletins Page.

Enhancement Requests

Use this new ER form (V17) if you want your enhancement request to be considered.  This works for all products, from Retalix Store to Connected Payments. 

Don't forget, dealers can now put software enhancement requests for any StoreNext software product on a "Wish List" by marking the box on the ER Form.  Ballparks and pricing on Wish List ERs will not be provided - they're more like a "suggestion box" - but Wish List ERs will be considered for future releases on StoreNext's discretion at no charge.  Wish List ERs that make the cut will be published in the Release Table.  You need only fill out the top information section of a Wish List ER with the Enhancement Summary and Rationale: of course, the more detail you provide, the greater the likelihood that the final design will be in line with your "Wish."  You can find the enhanced Enhancement Request Form on the Enhancement Request Form Page.

Policy Update on License Transfers

Connected Payments - New Capabilities in 2.18

Connected Payments 2.18 is live for all customers (now wasn't that easy?) with some outstanding new capabilities and enhancements.  Along with eWIC support, key new features include Manual Entry at the PIN pad, eliminating additional card number exposure for the store.  There's a new FSA report, and many other host changes, capabilities and features.  The quickest way to see the new stuff is to scan the Release Notes, available from the Connected Payments All-In-One Page or the WinEPS/Connected Payments Manuals Page.

New User Reference for Connected Payments 2.18
