New Complete Documentation for ISS45 Version 7

The ISS45 7140 Fall Release is almost ready, and StoreNext is rolling up all the system changes since 7130 into the updated V7 documentation.  The first set of new documents includes the 7140 Release Notes, plus a new Office User Reference, WinPOS User Reference, TLOG Technical Reference and System Maintenance and Utilities.  You'll find them on the ISS45 Manuals Page. Big PCI Changes

The PCI Council just released v2.0 of the Data Security Standards with new requirements that change how dealers must operate.  For all practical purposes, PCI may as well have mandated that all your stores migrate to Connected Payments, but read the Update and what this means.  This is a major shift that will be discussed at Synergy next week.

New Connected Payments Agreement with Responsibility Clause

The new PCI 2.0 DSS requires users to maintain a written agreement with each of their services providers that the provider takes responsibility for the security of cardholder data.  This updated Agreement adds this provision.  Get it or click from the Connected Payments All-In-One Page.

ScanMaster Setting for LaneHawk Auto-Ignore Feature

With ScanMaster 2.07.01-070, there's a manual XML setting for the "Auto-Ignore" feature in LaneHawk.  When LaneHawk identifies a bottom-of-basket item that is already included in the order before the total key is pressed (that is, a clerk already scanned the item manually) then that item can be ignored by the LaneHawk system.  This bulletin tells you how to enable or disable that setting with the 2.7.1-070 (note - ScanMaster only: Auto-Ignore is set within the ISS45 V7 or V8 LaneHawk install.  See the Software Technical Bulletins Page.

Skipping the Signature Line with Connected Payments Signature

Connected Payments provides an option to skip the signature line for credit transactions with totals less than certain amount. This can save clerks and shoppers considerable tender time.  This option has changed with the 825.3 download, and you can set this on/off or with different levels for each credit card type.  This bulletin tells you how - it's on the Software Technical Bulletins Page.

M-Dot Network Setup with ISS45 V8 - Updated

LaneHawk Server Install Update

This new LaneHawk Server Install provides about 25 new features, including DynaKey support.  Get the 2.7.15 release and LaneHawk 2.0.3.  The new Modelset (977) has been shipped to LaneHawk dealers.

ScanMaster WIC and Bottle Deposits

This process provides a suggested setup to handle bottle deposit requirements with WIC using ScanMaster V2.  Note that the process need apply only in states requiring bottle deposit that cannot be paid for by WIC.  On the Software Technical Bulletins Page.

Connected Payments Agreement Updated with SLA

Microsoft Operating System Changes

Microsoft is changing the rules on operating systems as of October 22. PC manufacturers will no longer be allowed to ship PCs including the XP Pro operating system.  But XP Pro is still available if needed, so no need to panic.  See the Update.

FSA Changes Coming January 1 - Updated with List

The Internal Revenue Service tax code will be changing the eligibility of some items for reimbursement under health care FSA, HSA, HRA and MSA plans. Most grocery retailers will be affected starting next year.  This Issue 2 adds more detail and a list of the changing categories, plus a brief extension for merchants using an IIAS such as the ScanMaster or ISS45 FSA option.  See the updated Update.

Fujitsu New P11 BIOS for TeamPoS 3000 XL2

A new version of BIOS (P11) has been released for the TeamPoS 3000 XL2 terminal. The new BIOS is transparent (with no benefit) to non-Windows 7 users.  See the Hardware Bulletin.

U-Scan: Pre-4.3.1 Software with TP3600 Series Computers

Under certain conditions for U-Scan pre-4.3.1 software, for customers with TP3600 Series computers, three COM ports (Bill Dispenser, Coin Acceptor, Bag Scale) will have to be manually updated in Device Tester.  See the Hardware Bulletin.

U-Scan: Resolution for PA-DSS Lockout

When there is a difference in passwords between one of the robots and the Attendant Station and the Attendant Station is running U-Scan version 4.3, the Robot account will get locked out on the Attendant Station.  This has to do with a PCI requirement - but here's the way you deal with it.  See the Hardware Bulletin.

U-Scan: Windows Software Update Alert

If the customer deploys Windows update 979683 to the U-Scan systems, the U-Scan application will fail to function and will crash. If you try to read HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OptimalRobotics, access will be denied.  See the Hardware Bulletin.

Fujitsu Keyboard Key Cap Kit Updates

Fujitsu's supplier (Preh) has issued an EOL for several keycap kits for various keyboards and replaced them with different kits. In many cases, the change is simply in the number of units per kit. In most other cases, there is simply a supplier part number change. These will be listed in StoreNext's pricing bulletins, but see the Hardware Bulletins page for a chart.

D22/D25 Display Connector Failures

If you don't install the strain relief, the connector is at risk from sideways stress.  See the Hardware Bulletins page.

U-Scan: A226 Printer Paper Jams and Print Head Damage

There have been reports from the field and repair centers of a high usage rate of the Thermal Print Head in the A226 printer that is used in the NextGen U-Scan. Many of the returned heads show physical damage that indicates a hard sharp object (like a knife or screwdriver) was inserted presumably to clear a paper jam. See the Hardware Bulletins page.

TeamPoS 3600 BIOS Updates

LaneHawk POS Integration Details

LaneHawk is integrated with ScanMaster V2 and ISS45 V7 and V8. However, there are some differences in the implementation of that support, depending on the POS system and the enhancements provided through releases over time. IBM Program Changes

There have been changes to the way in which education is provided by IBM under the ISR Program with StoreNext.  Now, you request courses via a contact e-mail and receive the CDs in the mail (the old method was via the Web only.  The process has been written down in the modified IBM Program Bulletin, now on the Web site. 

New PCs, Servers and Platforms

Scanner/Scale Dormant After EOD

DataLogic 8500Xt Scale Calibration

TeamPoS 3600 USB Error Message

During internal integration, Fujitsu saw an error on a few TeamPoS 3600 units in specific configurations.  A solution was implemented and production has resumed with the correction made. For installed units, this is for information purposes only.  This error has not been reported by any customer or any installed unit and does not cause any functional or operational issues with the terminal.  See the Hardware Bulletins Page.

Customer Alert - McAfee Incompatibility

We have recently been made aware of a potential issue that could affect customers using Windows XP system (including XPe, WePOS and POSReady) with use McAfee Anti-Virus software.  The issue can cause the system to become unstable and/or shut down. TeamPoS 3600 Update

The new update for the 3600 bulletin provides information about the new I/O (P-USB + Legacy) configurations, and there's a new table of performance information rating the 3600 against previous TeamPoS designs.  There are several other changes, including correcting the Model 3604 to an 800 MHz Front Side Bus instead of the previously published 533 MHZ FSB spec.

TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS Terminal Update

There's an updated configuration regarding the P-USB ports on the TeamPoS 3000 XL/2 terminal.  When used with the XL/2, five of the six P-USB ports on the combo panel are configured for use, but not the sixth.  The updated product bulletin explains all.

MasterCard Mandate for Account Balance and Partial Authorization

Most dealers knew this was coming as early as last summer's Sunday School at RSPA, but it still feels like a bombshell when you realize that the new mandates mean updating the payments and/or POS software on every system.  See the Update bulletin.  

RBS WorldPay with Blackhawk

The Connected Payments system was updated to support Blackhawk gift cards via RBS (via release 2.16 earlier this month).  RBS has now informed us, however, that they have delayed their implementation of Blackhawk hosting, and their current planning date is May of this year.

ScanMaster 2.7.0

This latest ScanMaster major release offers an outstanding new cashier screen and supports LaneHawk.  Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server are now supported, and password restrictions have been eased in light of the updated stance from PCI on this issue. This is a very important release, providing the new Partial Authorization capability across all payment types and supporting the new mandates for account balance information being provided on the electronic payments receipt.  See the Release Table.

WinEPS 825.3 SP2

This release will be shipped to authorized dealers the week of March 8 - see the Release Table. Note the compatibility and upgrade requirements for the base level of WinEPS and Hypercom L4100 terminals.  The Release Table is now available.

U-Scan Systems with Datalogic Scanner/Scales

With Datalogic's EOL on the 8500 and 9500 scanner/scales, changes are required in some of the mounting hardware in the U-Scan Genesis to allow the new scanner/scales to be properly installed.  StoreNext's configurations are being modified to include this new mounting hardware where appropriate, and here are details from Fujitsu.  See the Hardware Bulletins Page.

TeamPoS 3000 New PSU Fan

LaneHawk Now Installed in More Than 1,000 Stores

More than 1,000 grocery stores in the US are now using LaneHawk to increase profits, according to maker Evolution Robotics Retail. The LaneHawk loss-prevention system, built on Microsoft’s Windows Server operating system, uses video analysis to identify and ring up articles in a shopping cart’s bottom-of-basket (“BOB”) to ensure they are not omitted from the order and accidentally given away.  See the full announcement and add it to your LaneHawk campaign kit - on the LaneHawk Page or the Press Release Page.
