HOT!  V7 EOD File Change for 1/1/10

With the year 2010 fast approaching you need to be aware of a change to the file names that are created during the EOD process with ISS45 V7. This change took effect more than 10 years ago as a part of Year 2000 application change requirements. The change will affect applications or batch files that look for specific file names. For example, if you have written applications or batch files that look for specific file names — such as TRA*.ZIP — your application or batch file will fail as of January 1 when the system dates roll over to the year 2010.  See this Issue 2 of the Quick Reference document.

Canada Magellan 8500Xt Firmware Upgrade

The Datalogic 8500Xt has now been released for volume shipments to Canada.  As with the US version, a firmware upgrade is currently required for the unit to operate properly.  From the Support Page, go to "Drivers ... " and select "Datalogic Firmware FTP" - under the 8500Xt folder you'll find the "CanadaFirmConf" folder with the necessary firmware and configuration files.

Special Upgrade Method for ISS45 through 7.0.8.3

There's a special process you need to go through when updating a system from version 7.7.1 up through 7.0.8.3 and beyond if intervening patches were not applied.  Data will be lost if this is not done correctly.  Thanks to Speros Voss, we have a bulletin explaining what you need to do and some specially packaged software patches, procedures and utilities to make this easy, quick, and foolproof. iPAD - New Stylus and Tether

A new Stylus and Tether are now released for the iPAD Handheld product.  The Stylus has a spring loaded tip to improve reliability and customer tactile esthetics.  It will also prevent damage to the internal Reset buttons on the iPAD due to overstressing by the operator.  That seems a lot to ask from just a tether and stylus, but that's Fujitsu's story and they appear to be sticking to it in writing.  Hardware Bulletins Page.

Anti-Virus Conflict with U-Scan

Fujitsu has notified us of a problem where Symantec Anti-Virus causes blue screens on U-Scan. StoreNext continues to strongly recommend the use of Solidcore to avoid issues and emergencies that are inevitable due to untested A-V downloads. See the Technical Bulletin.

ScanMaster Support with New IBM OPOS and Drivers

When loading the new SurePOS 300 IBM E4A models, the new OPOS/UPOS drivers must be used – the IBM driver set for the old model of the SurePOS 300 will not operate correctly. These drivers are available on the StoreNext Dealer Support Web site along with the documentation and instructions.  The new firmware and drivers will also enable the new 4610-2CR printer to operate correctly.  See the Software Bulletin.

Updated Connected Payments Agreement

The Connected Payments/Connected Services agreement has been updated with a current list of acceptable Processors in the System Requirements and the requirement to provide the initial and signature pages of the customer's merchant agreement with the processor.  This is essential because of uncovered liability where a customer is signed up (often unknowingly) with an ISO instead of the processor, which StoreNext is prohibited from supporting as per Visa and the other card associations.  An updated Checklist is also provided.  Use the updated version from the Connected Payments All-In-One Page.

TeamPoS 3600 - Weights & Measures

StoreNext has now received the W&M NTEP in-process number for the TeamPoS 3600 filing with StoreNext's POS systems.  Dealers can now install ISS45 and ScanMaster with the TeamPoS 3600 and they won't come at your customers with red tags.  This is available on the Software Support Page under "Regulatory Information." 

New Co-op Application

TeamPoS 3000XL SATA Driver Lading Procedure

There have been reported issues loading software on the TeamPoS 3000 XL terminal from scratch and the Windows operating system not recognizing the hard disk drive. When starting with a new hard drive, a new system without software loaded, or without a Ghost image to copy, the software first needs to identify the hard drive as a SATA drive.  See here how to show it.

We have discovered that the factory image for XP Pro or Windows 2003 Server may not include the Microsoft fix for Daylight Savings. RBO Security Patch

RBO provides integrated password management with ISS45 V8. However, password management in ISS45 V8 has changed with release 8.1.4.1 in order to meet tightened PCI mandates. The integration of the new password management is not yet available with RBO, and so RBO will not work properly if a customer upgrades to or installs the 8.1.4.1 POS release. This patch provides the solution.

ScanMaster 2.6.1 Register Upgrade Install Fix

When you are upgrading the POS terminal with the new 2.06.01-050 CD, a critical database file is not installing properly.  This does not affect new installs, and does not affect the code itself.  Only the install is affected, but you need to use this updated installation file to ensure that manager overrides will work correctly.

ISS45 V7 and V8 EBT WIC QDX File Refresh

The normal process of refreshing a file at the POS involves getting a few records at a time from the MFS and doing an insert for each individual record. This process can take from 5 to 15 minutes at end-of-day, but there is a “Fast Load” option that can be enabled in the WinPOS.INI file for specific QDX files.  This technical bulletin from Speros Voss tells you how to use it.

U-Scan Fastening Hardware

During a recent visit to several U-Scan installations Fujitsu discovered that many operators had a screw loose - that is, loose or missing nuts, bolts, screws and so forth.  Here's how to keep it from happening.  By the way, this bulletin features a splendid set of graphics for fastening hardware.  Alas, no LocTite photo in this one, however.

iPAD Sub-Battery Charging

There have been numerous cases of iPAD’s not holding the contents of memory after replacing the Main Battery. This is usually due to the Sub-Battery not charged sufficiently to maintain power to the memory while the Main Battery is removed. Solution?  Oh, yes.

Preventing Credit Card Skimming - PCI Best Practices Document

Fujitsu POS Price Increase Notification

Prices of several Fujitsu hardware products will increase for shipments after October 1, 2009.  Products affected include Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XE terminals, displays, printers and other items from Fujitsu. StoreNext greatly regrets these changes, which are exclusively the result of cost increases to StoreNext for these items.   See the Update bulletin for a summary.  

VeriShield

A recent announcement from RBS WorldPay regarding VeriShield is making the rounds, and several dealers have raised questions about how this encryption system from Verifone compares to Connected Payments and WinEPS.  It doesn't, but it wasn't designed to.  But see this Update bulletin anyway.

An improvement has been made to the iPAD Single Battery Charger to improve the reliability and robustness of the contacts within the Charger.

Target Brands, Inc. Payment Process Claim

Target was granted a patent on an order flow process that merchants could possibly use when taking credit payments via signature capture.  It is important that your WinEPS users are notified with a formal letter that explains Target's position and how users can steer clear of Target's claims.  StoreNext is advising Connected Payments users via e-mail and the Connected Payments user home page.  See the Update Bulletin for an explanation of what's going on.

U-Scan Genesis Bag Scale Label – Canada Only

It was recently been discovered that a label that is required by Canada Weights & Measures was not provided for Genesis units installed in Canada.  The fix involves, oddly enough, providing the label. ISS45 Version 8.1.4.0-080 - New Feature

This sub-release provides a new Variable Percentage feature that enables stores to give variable percentage discounts on items throughout the order.  In addition, faults in mag-stripe readers, fuel vouchers and EJ have also been addressed.  See the Release Table and the Release Notes regarding the new feature.   

ScanMaster Registry Change for Datalogic 8300/8400 with USB / OPOS

A registry change is required when running a Datalogic 8300 or 8400 scanner scale with USB/OPOS and ScanMaster.  This technical bulletin from Jeff Galing tells you what to do and provides an updated registry if desired.

IBM Audio Tones Lost After Power Cycle, ScanMaster and ISS45

Beeps, tones and audio can be lost through an IBM monitor when the POS is powered off and then back on. This affects the IBM SurePOS 300 and SurePOS 700 running the IBM IR Touch Screen (4820-5GB) as well as the IBM SurePOS 500 with integrated display.  This problem affects ScanMaster and ISS45, at least until you read the technical bulletin and act accordingly.

ScanMaster Pervasive v10 Install Error with Windows 2000 Professional

Pervasive version 10 Workgroup has an issue when installing POS terminal that is using Windows 2000 Professional. The Technical Bulletin tells you that it's not a big deal and what to do.

StoreNext to Offer LaneHawk - Press Release

StoreNext and Evolution Robotics Retail have signed an agreement for StoreNext to distribute ERR’s LaneHawk system through StoreNext’s nationwide reseller network. StoreNext will integrate LaneHawk into its ISS45 and ScanMaster POS solutions, enabling grocers of all sizes to eliminate most losses from bottom-of-basket shrink.

New U-Scan Universal Bag Scale

The New U-Scan Universal Bag Scale is being released, offering more flexibility and scalability due its modular implementation.  The same bag scale module is used to upgrade the system from one bag to two while multiples of the same module will allow for 4, 6 and 8 bag configurations.

New U-Scan UPS Firmware

A new version of the U-Scan UPS firmware is being released into the unit that is currently used in the U-Scan system.

New 80GB HDD for TeamPoS 2000 Terminal

The existing drive is obsolete and can no longer be purchased from the manufacturer. Although spares may exist and be available on the Web, large quantities at reasonable prices will be difficult to find. This new 80GB HDD (5400 RPM) has been validated for release on the TeamPoS 2000 terminal.

U-Scan Genesis with Magellan - Zero Scale Button

The Magellan scale zero button can become jammed if foreign objects are used to press the scale zero button.  If the zero button becomes jammed, an Error Code “A” will be generated and the scale will not function.

Windows 2003 and Server Hardware

Microsoft will no longer allow OEM hardware manufacturers such as Acer to ship pre-loaded Windows 2003 with their servers.  They can only ship Windows 2008 server, which is not currently compatible with ISS45.  Here is how to get Windows 2003 at no additional charge and load it instead.

Telequip Coin Dispensers with ISS45 V7 and V8

Telequip coin dispensers can now operate with V7 and V8 WinPOS.  With V8, you need 8.1.4.0 using OPOS, and with V7, RS-232 is supported with 7.1.3.0 and forward. The Setup Guides are published as Technical Bulletins.  Special thanks to Paul Willoughby of CRS for coming up with a clever method for V7 configuration.

U-Scan Genesis Site Prep Error

U-Scan Genesis Rubber Door Cushions

There have been ongoing issues with the Rubber Door Cushions not staying in place on the Genesis U-Scan which results in door misalignment and thus dispensing issues through the door. This was previously addressed with process improvements during production and in the field via PSB-08-029. TeamPoS 3000 Pricing

Fujitsu TeamPoS 256MB RAM EOL

ScanMaster Not-On-File and Live Weight Beeps with Magellan

The new Magellan 8400/8300 scanner scales need the correct firmware to work properly and provide the signal beeps for not-on-file and live weight conditions with ScanMaster.  This firmware was supposed to ship automatically, but it has been discovered that this has not been happening. New TPG Driver Fix

An issue with the former TPG OPOS driver caused a hyphen or dash (“-“) to appear in the account number when processing certain Bank of America checks. This would also be filed within the WinEPS journal file.  This is now fixed - see the Technical Bulletin.  The new driver is also available on the Drivers Page (see the "Additional Drivers" section) along with its documentation and installation instructions.

Long LAN Runs with TeamPoS 3000 XL

New Datalogic/PSC Driver Fix

For a very long time, Datalogic Scanner/Scales using OPOS drivers can have the scale drop off line, and the only way to recover from this issue was to restart the register. Datalogic has now provided an updated OPOS driver for their Scanner/Scales that corrects this problem.  This has been especially a problem for ISS45, but the new driver is good for ScanMaster too.  See the Technical Bulletin.  The new driver is also available on the Drivers Page (see the "Additional Drivers" section) along with its documentation and installation instructions.

Connected Payments - Information Package

New MicroCoin Acceptors for Europe and Canada

Very small steel-based coins can get temporarily stuck inside the Coin Acceptor in a U-Scan.  Another coin, or tapping on the unit will allow the coin to fall through the acceptor. U-Scan Genesis Top Door Stopper Kit

If the Genesis Top Door is closed improperly (i.e. the door safety handle is not depressed prior to closing) and the operator attempts to close the door with excessive force, then pry it back open (presumably with even more excessive force) something's going to break. U-Scan NextGen Coin Cup

TeamPoS 3000 XE Legacy - Notice

The Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XE with the “Legacy” I/O cannot properly support ScanMaster.  StoreNext knows of no installations of ScanMaster with XE Legacy. This configuration is withdrawn and no support will be available for this combination.  There are no known issues with the standard P-USB version of the TeamPoS 3000 XE, or with any configurations of the TeamPoS 3000 XL with ScanMaster. The withdrawn ScanMaster configuration is the TeamPoS 3000 XE Legacy I/O only.

ISS45 8140 Combines 8132/8131 - Notice

To simplify support and eliminate potential faults and problems, StoreNext has combined last year’s (unreleased) 8132 and 8131 major releases into the 2009 Winter Release, 8140. ISS45 Version 7.1.3.0-060

The new 7130-060 release is available for download - this provides some key updates that enable partial tenders on debit and credit transactions (similar to gift cards), CCTV enhancements, coupon fixes for TPG and daylight savings time fixes.  See the Release Table.

New Solidcore Capabilities

With the new V2 Solidcore, there are new automated status messages you can set up, remote queries for Solidcore status, an automated reboot after an updated integration batch and some new entries that enable improved S4 integration.  See the Release Table.

ISS45 Bulletin 1000

A typo in the price for the ISS45 Controller license has been corrected in the "Price Book" format version of the ISS45 Bulletin.  The lower price in the old-fashioned bulletin version was correct and they're now consistent.
