U-Scan F53 Bill Dispenser Hardware Bulletin

It's kind of a "green-side-up" thing - the bill dispenser is supposed to dispense bills OUTSIDE the casing, not inside.  But not all F53 units heard that old joke and it could get messy.  But all it takes is a little foam tape to rescue you.  And don't forget to bring scissors (or an alternative cutting tool, presumably for the foam tape).  Oh yes - go out and purchase a METRIC ruler!  If you don't then you won't know exactly where to apply your cutting tool to the foam tape.  If you don't have time to run out to Staples and search in vain for a metric ruler, you will be pleased to know that you can use an alternate measuring ruler-type device and that 120mm is 4-3/4 inches and 67mm is 2-5/8 inches.  So don't say I never did you a favor.

ISS45 V8 Transaction File Technical Reference

Not sure how we missed this one, but the V8 Transaction File is extremely well documented in this manual.  Although this document is a "Retalix StoreLine" technical reference, it is consistent with ISS45 V8.  This was released for ISS45/StoreLine 8.6, so you'll find it on the ISS45 Manuals Page under 8.6 but be aware that there are few if any changes since then so this document is essentially current regardless.  With all those caveats now out of the way, you will find its full explanation of the V8 Transaction File system to be comprehensive.

U-Scan Carousel Scale New Center Bolt: Hardware Bulletin

You know - if you over-torque the center-bolt on a U-Scan scale, it just might - not always, but you never know - get screwed down against the load cell and cause fluctuating weight readings or fail to hold calibration.  Not surprising, but not necessary either since with this new design, using a Locking Pin, "...allows the Acorn Nut to tighten against the top of the Center Bolt and allows positive clearance between the Bag Rack Base and the bottom of the Acorn Nut."  Now if that ain't clear, and this matters to you, this hardware bulletin is strongly recommended.  (Sorry - this is one case where LocTite alone jut isn't going to cut it.)

Another Very Interesting Issue

In-Store's articles have progressively changed to more in-depth discussions of key, critical retail issues - especially for grocery stores.  This month's issue provides a look at SuperValu's new "avenu" in-store media system, designed to introduce new products, win brand loyalty and generate revenue all while targeting specific shopper segments.  There's a very interesting study of "internet user DNA" - based on research done by Yahoo on registrations, Campaigns and On-Line behavior of shoppers on the Internet.  Good stuff.  The other large article of note provides a clear, straightforward and useful introduction to "segmentation."  One time through this, and the next time some jerk with an MBA at a cocktail party starts going off on "market segmentation" you can put him back in his BMW where he belongs.  Lots of other stuff too.

U-Scan Hardware Bulletin

There are ID magnets in bill dispensers.  They're held in place by retainer brackets.  The retainer brackets are held in place by screws.  What happens if shipping or other vibration loosens the screws?  Well, apparently, the retainer brackets get loose.  And, as logic would have it, so will the ID magnets.  Now what?  Well, like anything else that you don't want getting loose, Loctite will do the trick.  This Hardware Bulletin provides much more detail of course, including the precise strength and part number of the Loctite.  Oh, sure, there are pictures of the retainer brackets and those pesky Phillips-head screws.  But besides that, you'll get a nice portrait of a bottle of Loctite (suitable for framing in case you happen to be a Mechanical Engineer).

New ER Form

Some dealers were getting really good at this, so we've raised the bar and required 24 extra line items of information and a business justification section that requires a case study worthy of the Harvard Business Review.  (Just kidding - minor updates, clarifications and places to put things only.  But please use this new one.  Use it for ScanMaster, ISS45, RBO, Retalix Store, PocketOffice, U-Scan ... everything.  Thank you.)

Messaging from POS to POS and from Office to POS and back has been an ISS45 feature for a long time, but it's surprising how many stores there are who aren't aware of its capabilities.  Speros Voss, ISS45 Technical Specialist, lays out the setup for you here, with examples you can use and embellish.  It's a nice demonstration feature too.

Make 'em Wait

On second thought, better not. Americans hate to wait, and they hate it the most in the supermarket. “…Grocery stores are the worst. Almost one in four in the AP-Ipsos poll picked the grocery checkout as the line where their patience is most likely to melt like the ice cream turning to goo in their cart.” Between the faster checkout offered by new features in ISS45, ScanMaster, WinEPS, PSC scanner/scales — and the best way yet, U-Scan — you’ve got a whole basket full of ways to make sure your independents can keep their service levels – and their impatient shoppers.

Update Watch Out Diamond Stealth S60

StoreNext certified the Diamond Stealth S60 card in October with the TeamPoS S-Class.  Recently we began to hear of problems - apparently the manufacturer has significantly revised this product without making any visible changes to the packaging or product IDs or numbers.  The new boards - with a red, half-height printed circuit board - are simply incompatible.  If you open the box and find this model, take it back.  The original Technical Bulletin stands, but only for the original version.  This Issue 2 provides the obviously-required warnings.  Meanwhile - see the item below.

This new tool is a big improvement, and uses the XML capabilities of the newer ISS45 V7 and V8 WinPoS releases to use the new program.  StoreNext maintains this tool on the web (only) so you don't need software: just a logon which StoreNext's Connected Services folks will very happily provide (call Duane Litwick at 972-265-4813).  You just log on and download the resulting XML files to your local machine.  Here is a nice little manual that shows how to do it.  All releases of ISS45 V7 starting with 7.10.0-090 and 8.10.0-050 are supported. In the future StoreNext intends to provide automated Code Distribution to move these files directly from the web to the store ... ... ... but for now, just enjoy not doing the menumac.sys thing.
