What's Card Data?

What constitutes "bank card data" and how to handle the question with customers came up last week.  Based on the DSS rules, even the PCI-Isolated versions of ScanMaster and ISS45 keep a few digits that are required for store management from the full 16-digit card number. But is that going to cause problems?  So over the past few days we've interviewed PCI members, several Trustwave people (the #1 nationwide technology auditors), and some other electronic payments industry experts — and of course PCI's Data Security Standards document itself.  This update bulletin has the results and the answers you asked for.

Connected Payments Action Plan

If you'll be implementing a Connected Payments customer site, here's a "Cliff's Notes" chart describing the steps and the schedule.  It not only helps the service and support crew, but you can use it with customers so they have a picture of the (rather straightforward) upgrade process, who does what, and the typical time involved.  It's a really nice piece of work - where else but the Connected Payments All-In-One Page would you ever imagine finding such a gem as this?

FSA Prefix File for WinEPS

This file provides the FSA and other health-care card range numbers for the WinEPS Prefix file.  This data is needed so the system recognizes the proper cards for FSA-type transactions.  It's not needed for Connected Payments, however, since we take care of all that at the host.  You can get it from the WinEPS Page.

Wow!  Progressive Grocer — Big Story on Connected Payments

Progressive Grocer just wrote up a great Connected Payments story profiling White's Foodliner, a six-store Kansas chain that was the first to install Connected Payments.  White's has reached Credit-to-Debit conversion rates of up to 80% in some cases - this is a great story to include in your sales kit for any doubters that Connected Payments works for real.  You'll find the study in the January issue of Progressive Grocer — and it's also available immediately on the PG Web site.  Congratulations to Curt Stremel, Jeff Klaus and the RDS Wichita team for one helluva coup.
